Planetocio is a leisure-anchored shopping centre 25 miles north-west of Madrid, Spain that was completed in 2013.
Haskoll were asked to revive its sagging fortunes in the light of two of its major anchors, an ice rink and supermarket, moving out with its consequent release of strategic sales area. The aim was to optimise and improve the leisure facilities and environment by creating an exciting and attractive retail and leisure scheme, maximising its excellent location on one of the main radial motorways serving Madrid. The ice rink was replaced with a restaurant cluster and fitness club boasting a pool, creche and padel tennis courts as well as the usual facilities. The former supermarket was extended and turned into a unit for Media Markt, Germany’s premier electronics store.
Conceptually, the cosmos and ‘The Big Bang’ was drawn upon in specifying colours, geometry and patterning. Internally, the malls were provided with new flooring, ceilings, pilasters and lighting to give a crisper, bright and more contemporary feel. The exterior included partial recladding and lighting, relocation of the existing disruptive car park entrance ramps a new external restaurant quarter.
