This project illustrates how the potentially redundant upper levels of city centre buildings can be re-purposed to add social and development value.
We undertook the conversion of this historic listed building, housing a family run business, into revitalised shop units at ground floor with residential accommodation above. Detailed consultations with CADW and Cardiff City Council identified means for extensions that made the residential element viable and funded the full restoration of the important historic elements of the building, including the Victorian facade.
The existing building behind was reconfigured with a series of simple extensions at the rear. The nature of the listed building dictated the configuration of the apartments and the subsequent unit divisions created interesting plan layouts. The apartments benefit from original, historic features and views onto the thoroughfare.
