Regeneration of an outdated mixed use community events space, which centred around reimagining Angel Central’s public realm and placemaking amenities.
The project included working closely with the artist Wolfgang Butress to breathe new life into his original angel wings sculpture. Through the addition of new tiered seating at ground level and by raising the angel wings, we both enlarged and refreshed the area.
An extended first floor balcony and new bridge provides further views to the main square, experienced in the round for the first time.
A new bridge at first floor facilitated the addition of a new restaurant and al fresco dining area. New retail and leisure space was created through the conversion of the existing car park. The lighting design was an important part of the redevelopment, enhancing the environment for the day and night time economy.
Angel Central is the only shopping centre in the world to have been awarded the prestigious Fitwel health and wellbeing award.
