Haskoll were appointed by Norwegian Property to prepare a retail design overview of Aker Brygge. Located on the Oslo waterfront, it is one of the country’s most important and exciting retail and leisure areas which underwent EUR190 million worth of remodelling and refurbishment, completed in 2015.
Until 1982, the site was home to the Akers Mekaniske Verksted shipyard, established in 1854. From 1986 it has formed part of Norway’s most attractive office district, known as Aker Brygge, with around 70 shops, 40 cafes, restaurants and bars, and attracting around 12 million visitors a year. It provides employment for around 6000 people.
It is now one of Oslo’s largest property projects. The 100,000 square metres mixed-use scheme comprises waterside restaurants and cafes, retail, residential, offices and a range of entertainment and cultural activities. It is the most visited tourist destination in Norway.
Aker Brygge’s restaurants have a seating capacity of 5000, 2500 of which are outdoors and the waterfront is busy 24 hours a day, particularly in summer.
