Haskoll were appointed as the architect and lead consultant for the redevelopment of the existing retail park at Abbey Wood.
The liquidation of ‘Big W’ (lease of the southern terrace) provided the opportunity to rectify the parks defects while seeking to introduce a real ‘sense of place’. The intention has been to create an urban feel by introducing new users such as Asda as the principle tenant, as well as additional catering offers which frame the new public square. The re-planning and landscaping, along with the introduction of public art will assist the urbanisation of the park and provide a vibrant and welcoming local centre.
The exciting new build elements will vastly improve the fortunes of the park by creating a vibrant and attractive environment which will provide the end use with both a positive retail experience. Abbey Wood made it as a finalist in the MAPIC Awards 2014 for the Best Refurbished Shopping Centre and was also shortlisted for the BCSC Gold Awards 2014.
